Principal’s Message

Good evening Twain families,

The leaves are certainly changing and we are looking forward to a beautiful fall!  Our students will try to get outside as much as possible, so please make sure they are appropriately dressed each day.  Living in the Chicagoland area, we know there can be a 20 degree difference day to day, so make sure to check the weather– it’s even a great thing to do with your children and get used to having math conversations :).

There have been a lot of wonderful things occurring at Twain over the last few weeks.  On Friday, we celebrated National White Cane Day, a day to bring awareness to an essential tool that allows those who are visually impaired to move freely.  Many of our students were able to watch a video about the use of canes, as well as learn how to use a cane to navigate the world around us.  Attached is the video if you are interested.

We are looking forward to more exciting things in the future.  This week, you will be receiving information about conference sign ups with your child(ren)’s classroom teacher.  Teachers will be sending out links to sign up throughout this week.  All invites will be out by Friday, October 22.  Parent teacher conferences will be held November 22 and 22.  Families have the option to attend virtually or in person.  We are looking for ALL families to participate this year!

At Twain, we will be celebrating Halloween/Fall on Friday, October 29.  We will be sending more information with guidelines about costumes, as well as the plan for the day!

Thank you to everyone for helping keep all our students and staff safe and healthy!  We hope you have a wonderful week!

Best,

Alyssa and Mónica

Lockdown Drill- Monday

On Monday, October 18 at 9:30 AM, students and staff will be practicing a lockdown drill with the Wheeling Police Department.  Students will remain in their classroom and talk through the procedures for how to make safe, informed decisions in case of an emergency.  More information will be sent to families this week about the drill.  Students will be informed ahead of time about the drill and will have productive discussions about the procedures at that time.  If you have any questions, please reach out!

Car Drop Off/Pick Up

When dropping off or picking up your students from school, please make sure to REMAIN in your car.  For everyone’s safety, it is important to “Kiss and Go.”  We want to ensure that traffic is moving smoothly and our students are safe.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Reviewing Expected Behavior
As students are still adjusting back to school, please make sure to continue to review expected behavior in the classroom, bus, lunchroom, and bathroom.  We are continuing to review what is expected and unexpected behavior in these areas and appreciate your support in talking with your students as well!
