The students at Twain Elementary School got a special treat on October 30 when State Senator Julie Morrison participated in the Illinois Principals Association’s “Principal for a Day.” Twain Principal Alyssa Shapiro and school board members Arlen S. Gould and Staci Allan greeted Senator Morrison and gave her a tour of the school, including some of the structured teaching classrooms, bilingual classrooms, the new library and media center, the gym, and the cafeteria.

Morrison answered a few questions from the students about her role in Springfield, indicating she helps “make rules” for the community. The visit was punctuated by Morrison reading “After the Fall,” an inspiring epilogue to the famous nursery rhyme “Humpty Dumpty.” The visit left an indelible impression on the students, reminding them that they too have the potential to achieve greatness.

“We are so grateful for the senator’s visit in making a positive impact on our students,” said Shapiro. The visit ended with students giving the senator thank you notes.
