Students and staff from Twain Elementary School in Wheeling are sending handmade valentines decorations to the inpatient ward at La Rabida Children’s Hospital in Chicago this week. Each classroom chose a child at La Rabida to be the recipient of their artwork as part of the schoolwide kindness project.
Rachel Kekstadt, Twain art teacher, organized the effort after seeing a local grocery store engaging in a similar project.
“Giving students authentic experiences, like creating artwork to make an impact in the lives of other children, makes learning more meaningful,” Kekstadt said. “Students love to create a product and share it with others.”
The artwork will be delivered Saturday, in time to brighten the halls of La Rabida for Valentine’s Day.
